About Our Founder
01

Hollywood

My journey started in Los Angeles in 1988, where I was enjoying my Hollywood career as an extra working with the likes of Jon Voight, Steven Segal, and Edward Norton on shows and movies such as Cheers, Mad About You, News Radio, Rocky 5 and many others.

After some time, I decided to try my hand as a producer. My first picture was called 18 Shades of Dust and starred Academy Award nominee Danny Aiello. Having gained some confidence, I then began to direct, produce and edit my first feature film called Death Clique, which was eventually sold to Blockbuster Video!

02

The Spark

An opportunity then arose for me to teach Media Arts & Animation at San Marino High School. At the point in my life where I was looking to slow down and start a family, I jumped at the opportunity and got my teaching credentials! I couldn’t pass up the chance to share my knowledge and experiences with eager young minds.

This was easily one of the most rewarding periods of my life. Our program was lucky enough to win many awards, and many of my students have gone on to do great things, including working for Steven Spielberg's Shoah foundation.

Getting my students to complete projects was always a little difficult as we only had so many cameras to go around. Five, to be exact. So, I began to let them use their iPhones and iPads for projects. I was getting back a lot of quality work, but the images were shaky, the audio was horrible, and the lighting was all wrong.

03

The iOgrapher

I began to tinker with the idea of creating some kind of a case with handles on either side that could hold an iPad or iPhone. I wanted it to mount on any standard tripod and to mount microphones, lights, and also lenses. So, I 3D printed my original design and thus, the iOgrapher was born.

04

The Here, the Now, the future…

We are now in our 3rd year, and our device is used around the world by the likes of Steven Spielberg, the Miami Dolphins, and, best of all, thousands of schools and universities. Every day, I get sent pictures of users and never cease to get excited about how they're creating with it.

I am truly excited about continuing this journey with all of you and look forward to seeing what you create.

Welcome to the iOgrapher family!

Cheers, Dave
